There’s so much that goes into making a single garment, much less an entire product line. For our designers, their inspiration is built into the threads of each product. So what drives them to source the finest in innovative materials? How do they bring magic to the process of producing the finest Merino wool active and casual wear on the planet?
We spoke with three of our designers to find out.
Read on to find out more and then join these designers in our Boston, Seattle and Denver stores where they will share their inspiration first-hand (and a drink!), and listen to your feedback. You can be one of the first to see the all-new pieces for this spring and summer, and get a first-hand account from the designers themselves about everything that went into creating this unique collection. Event details below.

What is your favorite piece of the Spring 2017 collection that you worked on?
The Balance Crop Bra! It’s an ultra-fine, seamless Merino bra engineered with a beautiful ethnic motif. The mesh and rib are specially mapped to follow your body contours and provide support and comfort in a fresh silhouette.
How did fabric selection affect the outcome?
I don’t want to toot our own horn, but I’m gonna! Ibex Balance seamless is perfect! The fabric is soft, durable, and doesn’t stink, making it the best match for an active life. I knew when we set out to refresh the Balance program I needed to maintain everything about the integrity of the fabric that we already had in the collection. My goal was to focus on the details that would enhance our customers’ experience. I wanted to inject some fun with the ethnic motif and drill into knitted stitches that would elevate the fit.

Do you have a favorite piece in the Spring 2017 collection?
It would have to be the Women’s Essential V-Neck in our Lumen fabric.
What was your inspiration when you set out to create it?
We wanted to achieve an ultra-soft fabric that is luxurious but also functional in our daily living. Lumen brings together the best of both worlds: silk and Merino. The strength and soft feel of silk complement the inherent comfort of wool in a timeless V-neck that I wear everyday.
How do you go about selecting and sourcing all the materials that go into new designs like the Lumen?
We always start with the Merino fibers and where they come from, even down to the farm where the sheep are raised in most cases. For Lumen, we work with ZQ Farms to ensure a full traceability story on our wool and the proper treatment of our sheep. We were also looking to blend the Merino fibers with silk to give the fabric the superior softness and silky hand we all desire in our everyday essentials, while still telling a 100% natural fiber story. This blend gave us the hand-feel we wanted, and the silk added strength to the wool while providing a naturally elastic element to move with you in your active day.

Do you have any favorites in the Ibex assortment?
I love sweaters of all kinds. These are fine gauge and lightweight, so they’re as easy to wear as a tee but look more refined.
It is rewarding when I see that a style works for a variety of people; when it looks great on a range of ages and body types, and performs well in various situations. I also find it rewarding to build relationships with our supply partners. It is a rush to meet the folks on the factory floor and work with them to find the best way to make something more durable or more beautiful!
